about the project

The Louisville Arts Renaissance Project is an attempt to research, document, and share the recent history and development of the Louisville, Kentucky arts scene(s). Despite the remarkable growth and community in a variety of artistic disciplines over the last two decades, there’s no cohesive record of it. It is the goal of this project to create a platform for all kinds of artists in Louisville to tell their stories and promote awareness of both the current wealth of artistic activity and the rich history behind it through interviews with current and past artists, collecting archival sources, and ensuring that this information is accessible to as many Louisvillians as possible.

The Arts Renaissance Project is entirely run by Emma Johnson, a Louisville native, art enthusiast, volunteer archival librarian, and food-service worker.
